PROJECT Overview

Redevelopment of a former industrial site in Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville neighborhood, the Foundry at 41st is one of the premier apartment buildings offering 186 units. PVE was engaged to address the civil engineering and site design for this project, including attaining required development permits. Several challenges were overcome through the design of the site including stormwater management of the environmentally impacted site, and the connection to the existing sewer infrastructure in this area of the City, and operations.

In addition to the multi-family apartment building, the project also included Bay 41, a outdoor gathering and connective space which serves as an amenity to residents of the Foundry at 41st and the surrounding community. Bay 41 is the skeletal remains of a crane bay housed in the former industrial facility. The skin was removed to expose the steel framing which arches over the formerly vacated 41st Street. Bay 41 is to receive accent lighting and event lighting providing community connectivity and community gathering space.
